Beyond Europe: Exploring new markets and territories for European associations

14/10/2016 @ 16:00 - 18:30

[feature_headline type=”left” level=”h1″ icon=”comments-o”]Beyond Europe: Exploring new markets and territories for European associations[/feature_headline]

A peer2peer session on emerging opportunities and possible partnerships in Asia and the Middle East

Though most Brussels-based associations are primarily focused on Europe, the market in which they operate is increasingly global: they organise events on the five continents, cover topics of global interest, aim to reach members across the globe, and may open offices in other regions to develop their market. This expansion raises a number of challenges: generating the needed resources, operating in different cultural environments, globalising their service packages, managing teams in multiple locations, building partnerships with local actors, etc.

This peer2peer session will discuss the challenges related to the internationalisation of associations and their activities. Participants will have the opportunity to share their experience in this field and listen to the lessons learned by associations when expanding globally.

peer2peer sessions are fora for association leaders to share their experiences and challenges openly. We invite senior association leaders and experts to kick-start this exchange by providing their insights and expertise. To ensure an honest and informal dialogue, we ask everyone to adhere to the Chatham House Rule, and to share challenges, failures and questions in addition to success stories and best practice. Whenever possible, the results will be channeled into a white paper and launch a broader debate beyond the participants onsite.

ESAE peer2peer sessions usually start with a welcome by the moderator and an overview of who’s attending. Two more more ‘expert discussants’ then give short informal ‘case stories’ of 8-15 minutes. These are followed by a panel discussion and a debate with the participants. All peer2peer sessions also include a reception and the chance to network.

The event is free of ESAE members and costs € 25 for non-members.
